Third instar
ID per Catherine Ann Tauber
"It is a third instar of Ceraeochrysa cincta (Schneider 1851).
The genus is known for its larval habit of covering the dorsal body surface with bits of plant or animal material
(which you can see in your photo).
The abdominal segments of the larva have lateral tubercles and dorsal fields of long, hooked setae that hold the material in place.
The habit is a fine defense against natural enemies.
Ceraeochrysa cincta is widespread throughout the Neotropics and it was reported previously from the Galápagos Islands.
It is good to see that it is still found there.
