Buntings
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Cardinalidae - 6 species depicted (out of 42 species in 13 genera)
Genus: Passerina - 2 out of 7 species depicted
Sadly, buntings do not form a monophyletic group.
They are not even all in the same family including Old World buntings (Emberizidae), New World buntings (Passerina), and snow buntings (Calcariidae).
So confusing.
This page includes birds in Passerina - 2 buntings and 1 grosbeak (out of 6 buntings and 1 grosbeak.)
Species on page:
-
Painted bunting Passerina ciris
-
Lazuli bunting (Passerina amoena)
-
Blue grosbeak (Passerina caerulea)
