Earwigs

Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Dermaptera

There are apparently 2000 species of these nasties in 12 different families.
At this point, I will not make any attempt to speciate them beyond the level of order.

As a kid I was not particularly enamored with buggers.
Come to think of it, I am still not.
Even the name is disgusting.
Even the name of order (skin wing) is unappealing.
On the other hand, they are profoundly more interesting close up.
The head is kind of a cross between an ant and a potato bug.
